film analysis- juno

Your three-page close textual analysis should discuss how the film exploits this element of film form by using detailed, concrete references to specific scenes and shots in the film. Your paper must include a bibliography of the sources that you cite. You should cite your sources and format your document according to correct MLA format. You should also cite the textbooks used for this course, but you must include a number of sources (a minimum of three) beyond the required readings.

You will be evaluated on how well you understand and apply the formal property to your analysis of the film, the range and quality of secondary source material, the organization of your paper, and how well you have constructed an argument within your paper. Points will be deducted for poor grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Please proofread your papers carefully!

As you analyze the movie youve selected, make sure to consider the following as important influences of the movies themes and technique:

the socio-historical background to the film, economic and political factors that conditioned its making and explain its existence;
the traditions out of which a given film arises: the sorts of cultural quotations it partakes of, the conventions it makes use of, the degree to which it participates in certain specifically national patterns of expression;
the institutional positioning of a given film: its status in the public sphere in which it is received;
the director/authors larger body of work, of which the film is part of a larger whole
the work of the text itself, never forgetting, though, that films issue from a larger extra-filmic whole;
the question of a films reception in time and how this has pre-shaped our own expectations as well as the films place in history.
